Visitor Information

Just visiting? Take a walking tour of Condon’s Downtown Historic District and feel the pride that exudes from the ongoing renovation of its turn of the 20th century buildings. Tour the Gilliam County Historical Society Museum Complex, fashioned from original community structures and filled with interesting local memorabilia. Take a leisurely, scenic drive 20 miles southeast of Condon to the picturesque Lonerock Valley, namesake site of the County’s first settlement of Lonerock.

Looking for outdoor activities that are both fun and educational? Use Condon as your gateway for exploring one of Oregon’s great treasures - the beautiful and fascinating John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. The Monument contains 3 separate and distinct areas, the Sheep Rock, Painted Hills and Clarno Units. Explore them on your own or take advantage of guided and educational tours and hikes offered by the Oregon Paleo Lands Institute or other local John Day River Territory outfitters. Or maybe golf is your game. If so, make Condon your clubhouse, stay in town for a week and play 5 distinctively different golf courses, all within about an hour’s drive from town.

Recreational amenities in and near Condon include a nine-hole municipal golf course, tennis courts, rubber asphalt quarter-mile track, outdoor swimming pool, two school gymnasiums, our delightful City park, three baseball/softball fields and a movie theater. Combine all that with the multitude of nearby hunting, camping, fishing, cycling, rafting and photography opportunities and you’ve got a recipe for outdoor fun! The year’s Calendar of Events in Condon includes a celebration of the area’s Scottish heritage in January, Condon’s Fabulous Fourth of July – an all American Independence Day tradition for the entire family, a biennial regional juried art show, community beautification projects, rodeo events featuring amateur, high school and youth contestants, the County Fair which focuses on the creativity and skills of young and old alike and holiday events with all of their favorite traditions.
