The community of Condon, first known as Summit Springs, grew up around a fresh and abundant water supply, attracting both settlers and travelers. Condon is the county seat of Gilliam County, and rests atop the high Columbia River Plateau of North Central Oregon. Gilliam County is bordered on the North by the mighty Columbia River, on the west by the wild and scenic John Day River and just to the South, the foothills of the Blue Mountains. Recreational opportunities abound at every turn.

Much of Condon’s pride comes from the fact that many of the families are third, fourth and fifth generation residents of the area – people whose ancestry came from the ‘Old Country’ to build a new life, and whose present-day descendants continue to contribute freely to the community’s well being.
